rnd 3: holding the two legs made using your ‘Frost Blue’ together, use the working loop you have left to sc into the first st of the round of the leg you fastened off on, so that the two legs are now attached. From here you are going to crochet around both legs to create a new rnd. When you get to the end of the first leg, just continue back over into the second st of the next leg. Make sure you crochet in every st as you move over from one leg to the other. inc in next st, then *sc 1, inc* rep * 5 times (18 sts)

rnd 6: sc around (18 sts)

rnd 7: *sc 1, dec* rep * 6 times (12 sts)

fasten off and weave in all ends apart from your finishing end. You may find there is a small gap between the legs, but don’t worry! Just use one of your loose ends to sew the gap shut. Stuff the legs and body

Shirt Body (make one):
To make the body with a shirt instead of trousers, follow the instructions above but join your white pair of legs together instead, then crochet rnds 3-4 in ‘White’, and change to ‘Frost Blue’ for rnds 5-7. Weave in all ends apart from your finishing end. As before, if you find a gap between the legs just sew it up! Stuff the legs and body.

Tandemaus Crochet Pattern Assembly and Needle Felting

Attach the ears to the head between rnds 2-6. It helps to pin them in place before you sew, like in the pictures below!

Next, use the loose end on the body to sew it to the bottom of the head. The arms are attached at a diagonal angle as shown in the pictures – have them angled slightly upwards to mimic the pose the maus couple make when they’re shouting!

Attach tail to the back of the body. You can gently shape it into a little curl using your hands.

This is the way I needle felt the little maus’ face, but different methods may work better for you! If you’re not confident with needle felting, take a look at my guide here for some tips. You can also use cut out pieces of fabric if you’d prefer! First off, felt a horizontal oval in the middle of the face using your light pink wool roving, in between rnds 5-6. This creates the blush base that you can then add the nose on top of between rnds 6-7. Make sure these parts are centered, as it’ll be helpful to use these as anchor points to judge how symmetrical and central the rest of your felting is as you go along.

Next, using the dark pink wool roving, start to map out the rough shape of the mouth directly underneath the blush you just felted. I use two triangle shapes for this, keeping the middle of the mouth fairly empty as this is where I’m going to add in more detail. You can fill in the middle with the dark pink if you’d like, but I prefer not to so that the needle felting has less layers and a less bulky look. Once the rough shape is in place, you can use your white wool roving to add in the teeth to the top of the mouth as an elongated semi-circle shape, then the coral wool roving to add the tongue to the bottom of the mouth as a flatter semi-circle.

Add in the black wool roving just about the tongue to create the shadow at the black of the mouth. From here you can then begin to fill in any open gaps with the dark pink, and refine and secure the shapes a little more. Using the black, create the eyes on either side of the nose, about 4 stitches apart.

Now the face is done, you can add in some smaller details! Use the black again to create 4 small lines on the ears. On the trousers maus, add a white blob to the left of the top blue round, and on the shirt maus, the white blob goes on the top right of his shirt.
